About Hexham

Hexham is a market town in Northumberland, England, situated 25 miles (40 km) west of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was originally an important centre for the Roman occupation of Britain, with a large fortress and settlement located there. Today, it is known for its impressive medieval architecture, including Hexham Abbey, a 12th-century church that houses the Saxon crypt, and the Old Gaol, a former prison from the 14th century that is now a museum. The town is also home to a bustling farmers' market, which takes place on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, and is a popular spot for shopping and dining.
