About Oakhurst Links
Oakhurst Links, located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is recognized as the first golf course in the United States, established in 1884. Designed by Russell Montague, the nine-hole course was built with traditional Scottish design elements. The course fell into disuse around 1910 but was restored and reopened in 1994, offering players a historical experience using hickory clubs and gutta-percha balls. In 2012, The Greenbrier resort purchased Oakhurst Links, aiming to preserve its historical significance.
