The course was designed by Bobby Weed and Pete Dye and opened in 1984. It is a par 70 course that covers a total of 6,841 yards. The course has hosted the Travelers Championship since 1984. The tournament is known for attracting a strong field of players due to its proximity to the U.S. Open, which is played the following week. The tournament has been won by notable golfers such as Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson. One of the most memorable moments in the history of TPC River Highlands came when Jim Furyk became the first player in PGA Tour history to shoot a round of 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship in 2016. Despite his record-breaking performance, Furyk finished just one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Daniel Berger.
