About Matamata
Matamata is a small town located in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It is best known as the filming location for the Shire in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, with numerous sites around the town now open to visitors as part of the Hobbiton Movie Set tour. Matamata is also known for its picturesque countryside and farming heritage, with a number of local businesses offering tours and experiences focused on agriculture and rural life. The town hosts an annual A&P Show, showcasing agriculture and farming, as well as a variety of other events throughout the year.
