About Contraband Bayou
Contraband Bayou is a popular recreational area located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The bayou was originally named "Calcasieu River" by the Native Americans who lived in the area, but it became known as "Contraband Bayou" during the Civil War. It was named after the escaped slaves who sought refuge there, as it was considered a safe haven.
