About Andrews Air Force Base
Andrews Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in Prince George's County, Maryland, about 10 miles southeast of Washington, D.C. It is the home base of the 89th Airlift Wing, which provides transportation for the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, congressional leaders, and other high-ranking officials. The base also hosts the Air Force's premier air demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, and the headquarters of the United States Air Force Bands. The base is named after Lieutenant General Frank Maxwell Andrews, one of the key figures in the development of the Air Force during World War II. Andrews Air Force Base covers over 4,300 acres and has over 18,000 military personnel and civilian employees.
