About Pococke
Richard Pococke was an 18th-century English bishop and antiquarian who visited Kilkenny during his travels in Ireland. He was particularly interested in the city's medieval architecture and history, and wrote extensively about his observations in his journal. Pococke visited Kilkenny Castle and admired its grandeur and the beauty of the river Nore that flowed nearby. He also visited St. Canice's Cathedral and the Black Abbey, two of the city's most historic buildings, and wrote detailed descriptions of their design and layout. Pococke's writings about Kilkenny provide valuable insights into the city's past and continue to be studied by historians and scholars today.
