About Laytonsville

Laytonsville is a small historic town located in Montgomery County, Maryland. It was founded in 1763 and was originally known as Cracklintown before being renamed to Laytonsville, after the Layton family who owned much of the land in the area. The town is home to several historic sites, including the Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park, which is a former slave cabin that has been preserved and turned into a museum. Laytonsville is also known for its annual Agricultural Fair, which has been held on Labor Day weekend since 1946 and features a variety of agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, and live entertainment. The town has a strong sense of community and hosts several events throughout the year, including a 4th of July parade and a Christmas tree lighting.
