About Batchwood Hall
Batchwood Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion located in the city of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. The original building dates back to the 17th century, but it was extensively renovated and expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries. During World War II, Batchwood Hall was used as a military hospital, and later served as a school for deaf children. In the 1960s, it was converted into a popular nightclub and entertainment venue, which attracted celebrities such as David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Rod Stewart. In 1995, a major fire destroyed much of the building, and it remained vacant and derelict for several years. However, in 2012, the council approved a £6 million restoration and redevelopment project, which transformed the historic building into a multi-purpose community and sports centre, offering facilities such as a golf course, tennis courts, gym, and function rooms.
