About Breedon Priory

Breedon Priory is a ruined medieval priory located in the village of Breedon on the Hill in Leicestershire, England. It was founded in the 12th century by the Augustinian Canons and played a significant role in the religious and social history of the local area for more than 400 years. The priory was dissolved during the reign of Henry VIII in the 16th century, and the site fell into disrepair. Today, the priory ruins draw visitors with its atmospheric setting and historical significance. The remains of the priory include the walls of the priory church, the chapter house, and the cloister, which are now maintained by English Heritage. The priory is surrounded by picturesque countryside and nearby attractions include the Breedon Church of St. Mary and the nearby Mount St. Bernard Abbey.
