About Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is a large area of woodland and heathland located in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. It is known for being the legendary home of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, who were said to live in the forest, steal from the rich and give to the poor. The forest covers an area of over 1,000 acres and is managed by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). It is home to a variety of wildlife, including red deer, foxes, badgers, and over 200 species of birds. One of the main attractions in Sherwood Forest is the Major Oak, the largest and most famous oak tree in Britain. It is estimated to be over 1,000 years old and has a trunk that measures over 33 feet in circumference. The tree is so important that it has its own caretaker, who is responsible for its preservation and upkeep. There are also several walking and cycling trails in the forest, as well as a visitor center that provides information on the history and ecology of the area. Each year, the forest hosts various events, including the Robin Hood Festival, which celebrates the legendary hero and his adventures.
