About Kenton County - Pioneer
Kenton County is located in northern Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. It was named after Simon Kenton, a prominent frontiersman and explorer in the area during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Kenton County was founded in 1840 and quickly became a thriving industrial and transportation hub. It was home to several major rail lines and factories, including the Ashland Oil Refinery, which was one of the largest in the country.
One notable pioneer in Kenton County was John G. Carlisle, who served as both a U.S. Representative and Senator from Kentucky in the late 19th century. He was also Secretary of the Treasury under President Grover Cleveland and played a key role in the development of the modern U.S. financial system.
Today, Kenton County is known for its vibrant communities, beautiful parks and outdoor spaces, and strong economy. It is home to several major employers, including Fidelity Investments and St. Elizabeth Healthcare, and has a thriving arts and culture scene.
