About Lake Blackshear
Lake Blackshear is a reservoir located in the southwestern region of Georgia, USA, in Crisp, Dooly, and Sumter counties. This artificial lake was created in 1930, after the construction of the Warwick Dam on the Flint River, which is part of the Savannah River basin. The lake has a surface area of 8,500 acres (35 km2) and a maximum depth of 40 feet (12 m). The lake is named after David Blackshear, a Revolutionary War hero who also served as a state legislator and surveyor. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping, and other recreational activities. It is also home to many bird species, including ospreys, bald eagles, herons, and kingfishers. The lake has several marinas, restaurants, and lodges that provide services and amenities to visitors.
