About Devens
Devens is a former military base located in Devens, Massachusetts. It was named after Major General Charles Devens, a Union Army general during the Civil War who lived in nearby Worcester. The base was closed by the U.S. Army in 1996 and became a community under the jurisdiction of the Devens Enterprise Commission, a state agency responsible for managing the development of the base. Today, Devens is a thriving community with industrial, commercial, and residential areas, as well as recreational spaces and conservation land. The town is also home to Fort Devens Museum, which showcases the history of the military base and its impact on the region.
