Langley Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in Hampton, Virginia. It was established in 1916 and is the oldest continually active Air Force base in the world. The base is named after aviation pioneer Samuel Pierpont Langley, who was a former secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. The base is home to the 1st Fighter Wing, which is responsible for training and supporting the next generation of combat pilots for the Air Force. Langley Air Force Base is also home to the Air Combat Command Headquarters and the Defense Information Systems Agency. It plays a vital role in national defense and is a strategic location for military operations in the United States.
