About Merion Golf Club

Merion Golf Club is located in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia. The club was founded in 1896, and its East Course was designed by Hugh Wilson in 1912. It has been ranked as one of the top golf courses in the United States, and has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments including five U.S. Opens (1934, 1950, 1971, 1981, and 2013). Merion Golf Club is known for its challenging layout, featuring narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and small greens. Its signature hole is the par-3 3rd hole, which requires a precise tee shot over a quarry to a green guarded by bunkers on either side. In addition to the East Course, Merion also has a West Course, which was designed by William Flynn in 1914. The club has a rich history, and its clubhouse is a classic example of Georgian architecture.
