Laurel Hill in Lorton, VA is a historic site that was once home to the Lorton Correctional Complex. The complex was closed in 2001, and later demolished in 2018. Today, the site is managed by the Fairfax County Park Authority, and includes several historic buildings, including the former prison hospital, guard towers, and cell blocks. The site also includes several hiking trails, picnic areas, and a playground, making it a popular destination for outdoor recreation. The Laurel Hill Golf Club is also located on the site, offering a challenging 18-hole course. Laurel Hill has a rich history, dating back to the 18th century when it was first settled. It was also the location of the Lorton Reformatory, a federal prison that operated from 1910 until its closure in 2001. The prison was known for its unique architecture and innovative rehabilitative programs, and was home to many famous inmates throughout its history, including suffragist Alice Paul and Watergate figure G. Gordon Liddy.
